BIOGRAPHY
Miniya Hines, a Business Administration student at Morgan State University from Prince George’s County, Maryland, serves as an Education and Interpretation Intern at Fort Raleigh National Historic Site through the HBCUI Internship Program. She is passionate about developing professional skills through public service while gaining hands-on experience in education, historical interpretation, and visitor engagement.
During her internship, Miniya works alongside National Park Service staff to support educational programming, historical interpretation, and public outreach at Fort Raleigh National Historic Site. Her work includes assisting with educational activities, helping develop interpretive materials, supporting school and community programs, engaging visitors of all ages, and sharing the stories and history preserved at one of America’s earliest colonial sites.
Through her HBCUI internship experience, Miniya is expanding her skills in communication, public engagement, program support, historical interpretation, and professional collaboration. By combining her business education with hands-on experience in public service, she is developing leadership, organizational, and customer service skills that will support her future career while helping visitors build meaningful connections with the history and resources of Fort Raleigh National Historic Site.

Internship Overview
As an Education and Interpretation Intern, Miniya supports educational programming, historical interpretation, and visitor engagement at Fort Raleigh National Historic Site, helping connect visitors with the people, events, and cultural history preserved at one of the nation’s earliest historic sites. Her work includes supporting educational activities, assisting with interpretive programming, engaging visitors, helping prepare educational materials, and contributing to outreach efforts that make history engaging and accessible for audiences of all ages.
Working alongside National Park Service staff, Miniya is gaining hands-on experience in educational programming, historical interpretation, visitor services, public speaking, and audience-centered communication. Through her work, she is strengthening her leadership, communication, and organizational skills while learning how public education and interpretation help preserve America’s cultural and historical resources.
