2024 HBCUI Intern
BIOGRAPHY
Jasmyne Kinslow, a Magnolia, Delaware native and Accounting student at Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU), served as an Expanding Stories Intern with First State National Historical Park through the HBCUI Internship Program in 2024.
At FAMU, Jasmyne has been actively involved in a variety of student organizations and leadership activities, including the Environmental Conservation Organization, Thrift Club, Art Club, SBI Orators, FAMU Men’s Basketball Managerial Staff, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), and the National Association of Black Accountants (NABA). Her diverse interests reflect a commitment to community engagement, environmental stewardship, and professional development.
Building on her previous experience with Killens Pond State Park in Delaware, Jasmyne contributed to the Expanding Stories initiative by researching the history of individuals who lived on or adjacent to The Green in downtown Dover. Working with park staff and community partners, she reviewed existing historical research, identified gaps in the historical record, and helped develop new research that expanded public understanding of the area’s history and the people who helped shape it.
Through this experience, Jasmyne strengthened her research, analytical, and communication skills while contributing to efforts that preserve and share stories that have often been overlooked in traditional historical narratives.

Poster Presentation – Career & Leadership Workshop in DC
Pictured above, Jasmyne Kinslow presents her internship project during the 2024 HBCUI Career and Leadership Workshop at the Department of the Interior. Through an interactive poster presentation, she shared research conducted as part of the Expanding Stories initiative at First State National Historical Park. Her presentation highlighted efforts to uncover and document the lives of individuals connected to The Green in downtown Dover, helping expand public understanding of local history and community heritage.

Cultural Art Showcase – "TELL THE UNTOLD"
As part of the 2024 HBCUI Career and Leadership Workshop, Jasmyne Kinslow participated in the program’s inaugural Cultural Art Showcase. The exhibit highlighted the contributions and legacy of African Americans in the United States and the National Park Service through original artwork created by HBCUI interns. Jasmyne’s featured piece, TELL THE UNTOLD, reflected the importance of uncovering overlooked histories and amplifying stories that have too often remained absent from the historical record, themes that closely aligned with her research work through the Expanding Stories initiative at First State National Historical Park.
